Automating and Improving Community Development Programs Reporting
Imagine: What was the need, what was the real problem?
With so many active and different types of Community Development Programs (CDP) in progress at any one time throughout Afghanistan, the need for a quick and effective solution to replace the manual data entry and time consuming reporting was identified as an urgent requirement by the CDP M&E Manager.
The CDP group manages the activities of a variety of public construction projects such as dams, irrigation and roadside canals, roads, schools, clinics and many other essential infrastructure construction projects. These projects not only provide jobs to the local community but are also improving their quality of life and safety. CDP projects are funded by organizations such as USAID which have implemented rigorous progress and expense reporting requirements.
Ignite: What solution did the team implement?
The executive director and CIO through the CDP M&E Manager partnered with Insyndia to implement a web based data collection and reporting system. This information is stored in a permanent database available for current reporting requirements but also providing the capability for future statistical analyses, thus improving accuracy in estimating project scopes and costs. The system was design to generate reports to meet USAID requirements, but keeping in mind that other agencies reporting requirements must also be met. Insyndia worked closely with the CDP M&E Manager throughout the design and development cycles to insure the desired results were attained.
Inspire: What were the results and benefits of the implementation?
The CDP M&E Manager and staff are now able to quickly input new project information, field statistical activity data, and generate reports to verify the project progress, quickly identify discrepancies and produce the required final project reports accurately with less effort and time.
Bottom Line: Why did the effort matter?
- Improved reporting accuracy and time
- Streamlined data entry and reporting process
- Facilitates meeting future reporting demands
